Small Laundry Room Makeover

One of my goals for 2012 was to paint the laundry room. I LOVE to cross things off of a list!

It's nothing extensive or crazy, but it sure feels good to have a freshly painted room with a few new little additions!

The room looked like it had wallpaper on it previously and had been stripped off at some point, leaving just a plain drywall layer. We've left it that way for the past 3+ years since we've lived here. It is, afterall, a laundry room.  Doesn't get seen much. Since we've lived here I've been continually having to look at how tall the previous owner's children had grown to be as they had marked it along one part of the wall.

It was hard to get BEFORE pictures of the room as I couldn't gain a great angle to show much. Plus, everything had already been taken out of the room before I thought to take a picture. Plus, I don't think I would have posted an actual before picture. It had become a cluttered mess.  No one needs to see that. Here's a few pics though:

Trying to get a full picture of the BEFORE room.
I'm standing just outside of an exterior door off the backside of our house.
This was a yellow splotchy formica coutnertop. This picture was taken after I had  sanded and primed it.
Where the washer/dryer go.  The wire dangling down was from an ugly flourescent light that I had Adam remove.

And the AFTER pics:
It's hard to tell in the pictures, but I painted the room a very light blue color (of course, after patching, sanding, and priming).

I painted the countertop. I used a Stone textured spray paint that was pretty cool to work with.  I then made it a nice and thick glossy  smooth covering by spreading a polymer compound product over top. The result is pretty awesome looking if I do say so myself.  This countertop usually had a bunch of "stuff" piled on it. I don't want to put anything on it now. I just like to look at it.
This picture was taken before all of the cabinet hardware was replaced.  I would have liked to have refinished the cabinets, but that was more work than I wanted to do these days.
Adam surprised me and made this fun measuring stick for me to keep track of our kiddos' heights!   And the best thing is that it can be removable! So, if we ever move out of this house, we can just unscrew this from the wall and take it with us!
It's just nice to haul everything out of a room, clean it, give it a fresh new look, and then put things back in it in a more organized fashion.
